Live Launch of the book "Social Production of Innovation: the electric car and innovation networks in Brazil"

👉🏽 In the book, Rodrigo places us in the midst of questions dear to the current public and academic debate about some of the transformations of our time. When dealing with the networks of innovation constituted in the process of social production of electric cars, the author elaborates an argument that is positioned at the interface between different topics, highlighting: a) the novelties in the automotive market that emerged in the face of the ecological challenge; b) the problem of cooperation between economic actors in their different contexts; c) the spaces of construction by the actors of their social worlds vis-à-vis the strength of established economic and social institutions and preexisting power structures. The introduction of cars with electric propulsion implies the affirmation, in the face of inertial forces, of a novelty in the market with a view to responding to “tensions” raised by new environmental actors, by the impasses in urban mobility and by public health demands. The case is that the constitution of networks to innovate is not trivial in the face of inertial forces, but networks create, in part, institutionality in the innovation process. This reinforces the relevance of innovation networks in overcoming the established order. Live will be mediated by Professor Doctor Raphael Lima (UFF). Rodrigo Foresta Wolffenbüttel has a PhD in Sociology (2019) and a degree in Social Sciences from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. He currently works as a Technician in Educational Affairs at the Department of Distance Education at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. He completed a period of sandwich doctorate at Università degli Studi di Torino with support and scholarship from Capes. He has experience in the field of Sociology, with an emphasis on Sociology of Development and Economic Sociology, working mainly on the themes: regional development, markets, innovation and sustainability.

From “Back in the race” to “Push to pass”: PSA Peugeot-Citroën #1 profit strategies - Raphael Lima

The interview is a sample of how the  automotive sector in Brazil can be an object for sociology and other disciplines of the  human sciences in the reflection of questions related to the transformation of the system _cc781905 -5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_capitalist as a whole.

Professor Raphael Lima also questions that the impact of the current health crisis   cannot be calculated, but the strategies of the automobile groups at the global level   demonstrate some of the possible trends in the sector . One of the highlights is that  the sector was undergoing a process of change in its business model, in which  concentration in the area of service provision was expanding largos, in  detriment of a decrease in actions based on the production and sale of vehicles.  In this scenario, there is a cultural/generational change in the relationship between individuals and  automóveis.  However, with the current distancing policy between people and the effects of this on social relationships, the motivation for the purchase of individual cars   is once again a possibility of expansion. The professor also points out the  trend in the search for new frontiers for the production of vehicles with a lower production cost and how some countries act with this strategy, as is the case of _cc781905-5cde-3194- bb3b-136bad5cf58d_China. Another important element is the advancement of industry 4.0 and its possible impacts,  which were already predicted even before the Covid-19 Pandemic.  Watch it, if you want, like and share!

Fordlândia: Past that Questions the Present and Future (with Romy Pocz-Plastic Artist interview)

📹 The provocation of plastic artist and designer Romy Pocz hit us hard when she used the grandeur of the past to provoke thinking about the present. Generally, Romy uses photos of factories and/or huge implementations that, at the time, evoked transformation to modernity, symbolism of change, but which are now lost in deserted, precarious and/or abandoned places. The recorded images are already a provocation!

❓ In the exhibition “The Last Adventure” (https://www.romypocz.com/work/a-ultim...), Romy also records scenes from Fordlândia (1927-1945), a city owned by the Ford Motor Company that was founded in the Amazon aimed at extracting latex and producing rubber. The artist gives us the interview starting from her own provocation and we, instigated by her, wonder about the departure of Ford (2021) from the country and if we are once again seeing the past questioning ourselves about the future!
